Softball Falls To Dayton In Series Finale

MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's softball team fell to Dayton, 6-1, Sunday afternoon in series finale between the two clubs at the SJU Softball Field.

The Flyers opened the scoring in the top of the third as they took advantage of two SJU errors to plate four runs against starting pitcher Madison Clarke.

An error cost the Hawks two more runs in the top of the fourth as Dayton built its lead up to 6-0.

The Hawks (20-12, 6-5 Atlantic 10) got a run back in the bottom of the fourth as designated player Lauren Reilly doubled home Kerrie Kortmann.

But that would be all Saint Joseph's would get as Dayton allowed just one hit over the final three innings.

For the game, Kortmann finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Reilly was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

In the circle, Clarke was the hard-luck loser, falling to 15-4 on the season as the Flyers scored all six unearned runs against her over 3.1 innings. Junior Anna Lauterbach was solid in relief for SJU, holding the Flyers to just one hit in 3.2 innings.

Saint Joseph's returns to action at Monmouth this Wednesday. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
