Softball Drops Doubleheader To Saint Louis

MERION STATION , Pa. - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader versus Saint Louis on Saturday. The Hawks fell 7-1 in the opener and 11-1 in game two at the SJU Softball Field.

Behind a six-run first inning, Saint Louis (31-16, 14-5 Atlantic 10) jumped on top of the Hawks and never trailed in game one. The Billikens tallied six runs on five hits and took advantage of a pair of SJU errors in the inning and later added a run off a Hawk error in the fourth inning to open a 7-0 lead.

Saint Joseph's (21-17, 6-10 A-10) would get a run in the bottom of the seventh as Sarah Yoos scored on a RBI single by Alexia Faulkener. But that's as close as the Hawks would get as Saint Louis' ace, Brianna Lore, closed out the threat.

In the circle for Saint Joseph's, Anna Lauterbach was the hard-luck loser as she fell to 1-5 on the year. Lauterbach held the Billikens hitless after the second inning, allowed just two earned runs and struck out three over sveen innings of work.

At the plate, Yoos and Faulkner were both 2-for-3 in game one.

In the nightcap, the Billikens jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Lindsay Friedman against SJU starter Madison Clarke. Saint Louis then added two more runs on a pair of RBI singles with two outs.

The Hawks got a run back in the bottom of the inning as Nikki Alden scored on a ground-rule double by Nicole Palase.

Saint Louis would pull away from there though as it scored once in the second, twice in the fourth and added four more runs in the fifth.

Clarke fell to 16-6 overall with the loss as she allowed nine earned runs on 16 hits, while striking out three. Alden, Faulkner and Palase accounted for SJU's three hits in the game.

The Hawks and Billikens will cap the series Sunday with a single game starting at noon.
