Timmy Parks Selected as Hawk Mascot for 2015-16

Timmy Parks has been selected as the Saint Joseph's University Hawk mascot for the 2015-16 season, becoming the 37th student to represent the University as its men's basketball mascot in the tradition that has now spanned 59 years.

Parks is a rising junior at Saint Joseph's and this past season, worked as a student manager with the men's basketball program. For the past two years, he has also worked in the SJU Athletic Communications Office.

An accounting major with minors in business intelligence and sports marketing, Parks hails from Wilmington, Del., and is a graduate of the Salesianum School.

He has been active on campus, working in the Learning Resource Center and in the Office of Student Leadership and Activities. Parks has also volunteered with Saint Joseph's Campus Ministry and participated in the Appalachian Experience.

One of the most renowned mascots in all of college athletics, which made its debut on January 4, 1956, The Hawk is a rarity among mascots because it travels to every game, home or away. The student who serves as the mascot has been the recipient of an endowed scholarship since 1992, and also performs the responsibilities of a team manager. Recognized by many publications over the years as the nation's top collegiate mascot, The Hawk is known for flapping its wings continuously during an entire game.

In 2013-14, the Hawk mascot was cited as "College Basketball's Best Tradition" by NCAA.com.
