PHILADELPHIA – Rising senior Andres Urrea was named the Most Outstanding Performer for the Saint Joseph's men's tennis squad. Urrea led the team in victories across both singles and doubles play this season.
A Second Team All-Atlantic 10 selection, Urrea was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and the Philadelphia Inquirer Men's Tennis Academic All-Area squad. He posted a 17-8 singles record, tying for the team lead in singles wins, while notching 13 victories across the third and fourth flights.
Kyle Chalmers, recently named the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Performer of the Year and an All-Atlantic 10 Second Team and All-Academic honoree, earned the team's Raymond Vasquez Award as the student-athlete who most represents the Jesuit ideals of being a “person for others.” A member of the SJU Student Senate, Chalmers was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society last month.
Renier Moolman was named the squad's Dorie Leahy Award winner, which is given for loyalty and dedication to the team. After spending a year on the sidelines as a transfer, Moolman led the team in doubles matches played and tied for second in doubles victories.
Pierre Brondeau was tabbed as the team's Scholar-Athlete Award winner. He was also a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 performer and notched 20 combined victories across singles and doubles play.
Chalmers also earned the team's Academic Award, given to the student-athlete with the highest grade-point average on the team.
