Men's Soccer Comeback Falls Short at UNLV, 3-2

Box Score

LAS VEGAS – UNLV's Danny Musovski converted a penalty kick in the 64th minute that broke a 2-2 tie as the Saint Joseph's men's soccer team fell to the Rebels, 3-2, at Peter Johann Memorial Field on Friday evening. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 0-3 overall while UNLV (2-1) picked up its first win of the season in its home opener. The match was part of the 2015 Johann Memorial Classic.

Trailing 2-0 early after UNLV's Aaron Goo found Corey Ackley and Musovski for a pair of goals in the first 13:42, the Hawks took advantage of some offensive pressure to get on the scoreboard. After junior midfielder Bliss Harris fired off a shot that was deflected by UNLV goalkeeper Abdel Rodriguez, junior midfielder Eric Jordan gained possession and put his shot in the lower left corner of the net at the 16:22 mark.

In the 35th minute and on a free kick right outside of the box, senior midfielder Tim Lazorko then put the equalizer into the back of the net to even the score, 2-2, entering the halftime break.

For the match, UNLV held an 18-8 advantage in shots, including a 10-1 second half. The Rebels also earned eight of the match's nine total corner kicks.

In his first start of the season, junior goalkeeper Jay Higbee (0-2) made a career-high seven saves in a full 90:00.

The Hawks return to action this Sunday, September 6 against Utah Valley (3-0) as part of the Johann Memorial Classic. Start time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. (ET) at Peter Johann Memorial Field. Utah Valley took down Pacific, 2-1, in overtime on Friday evening at the Johann Memorial Classic.
