Philadelphia, Pa. – The University of the Sciences golf team hit the links twice in two days, participating in the Griffin Spring Invitational and The Stockton Invitational earlier this week. After some unfortunate weather postponed the Devils' first match of the spring season, which was set for March 20th at the ACE Club against PhilaU and Rutgers-Camden. The Devils were one of 13 teams competing in the Griffin Spring Invitational, earning a respectable 10th place finish in their first outing, shooting combined 364 for +84 to par as a team. In a field of more than 65 competitors, the Devils had two golfers finish in the top 25, with senior Eric Jones and freshman Austin Staiano setting the standard on the day.
The Devils were back on the course again in the Stockton Invitational, placing two golfers in the top 10. The Devils finished with a total score of 350, shooting a +66 to par.
From The Fairway
- Jones finished with the team's best score for the second straight day in a tie for third place mark, shooting a team low 80 at +9 to par.
- Wes Kerr joined Jones in the top 10 with a score of 86, shooting +15.
- Staiano came up just two spots shy of the top ten with his 12th place finish, finishing the day with an 89.
- Jones and Staiano were the top two Devils finishers on day one at the Griffin Invitational, as Jones shot an 83 and Staiano following close behind with an 85.
- It was a week of first on the course for the Devils, hitting the links for the first time after a long winter break. It was also the first time Marc Storb would make his debut in the maroon and white.
