Baseball Wins Third Straight, Tops Bucknell, 6-5

MERION STATION, Pa.Peter Sitaras lofted a two-out, two-run double to left in the bottom of the eighth inning to push the Saint Joseph's baseball team past Bucknell, 6-5, at Smithson Field on Wednesday afternoon.  Brian Lau turned in a strong performance at the plate, leading SJU with three hits and three runs scored.

With the Hawks trailing 5-4 in the eighth, Charlie Concannon walked and Lau ripped a single to put two on and nobody out.  Cal Jadacki then greeted reliever Danny Rafferty with a sacrifice bunt to put the tying run on third and the go-ahead run in scoring position.

Two batters later, Sitaras lifted a fly ball down the line towards shallow left; shortstop Bruce Keenan made a diving attempt on the ball, but it landed safely in fair territory, allowing both runners to score.

Ryan Kelly came on and pitched around an infield single and a passed ball in the ninth to lock down his second save of the season.

Bucknell (9-16) took the lead in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly by Alex O'Neill.

Saint Joseph's (11-10) went in front in the bottom of the inning on a two-run home run by Cal Jadacki.  The Bison then equalized in the third on a solo home run by Brett Smith.

Lau restored the lead in the bottom of the fourth, leading off the frame with a solo home run to left.  Three batters later, Sitaras drew a two-out walk, stole second, and came in to score on a single by Marc Giacalone to make it 4-2.

The Bison got one back in the fifth after Smith tripled and scored on a groundout by Rafferty.  Bucknell then went ahead in the seventh on a two-out double to right by Joe Ogren.  Nick Roth came on to strand Ogren at second before tossing a perfect eighth to set up the late rally.

Roth retired all four batters he faced to earn his first collegiate victory.  Mike Stephens was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on one hit and two walks in an inning-plus.

Saint Joseph's returns to Smithson Field on Friday afternoon as the Hawks will open a three-game Atlantic 10 series with Davidson.  First pitch in the series opener is set for 3:00 p.m.
