Women's Tennis Bests St. Bonaventure, 5-2

OLEAN, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team opened its five-straight games against Atlantic 10 foes with a strong showing at St. Bonaventure on Tuesday as the Hawks topped the Bonnies, 5-2.

Starting the day in doubles play, the Hawks (3-3) earned the first win with a 6-0 decision by Arianne Polatnick and Robyn Ferraro at the third flight. However, the Bonnies were able to earn wins at the other two flights in highly-competitve matches.

Switching to singles play, Saint Joseph's quickly took momentun with three straight singles wins. Senior Anne Marie Devlin posted a 6-3, 6-1 win at the sixth flight, while Claire Minnoe battled back for a 3-6, 7-6 (3), 6-4 decision at the top flight. Arianne Polatnick made it a 3-1 match following her 6-3, 6-2 at the fourth flight.

Following a St. Bonaventure win at the second flight, Kristina Eisenbrand capped the win with a 6-4, 7-5 victory at the third flight, while Alex Zachem closed out the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win at the fifth flight.

"A really excellent team performance against a solid conference opponent," said head coach Ian Crookenden. "After losing the doubles point by a slim margin, the ladies fought courageously to regain then momentum and turn around performance by No. 1 Claire Minnoe and Kristina Eisenbrand put the tie in the hands of captain Anne Marie Devlin who won in convincing style to close out the match. Excellent singles from steady senior Arianne Polatnick and a security win by Alex Zachem rounded out a very rewarding performance. Truly a great team afford."

Saint Joseph's returns to action at Dayton on Friday.
