SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Saint Joseph's softball team capped its West Coast trip on Tuesday as the Hawks fell to Pittsburgh, 4-2, in a neutral site matchup at the University of San Diego Softball Complex.
The Hawks (6-8) opened the game taking a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second. Senior Hannah Dionne drove in the first run as Brandi Harkness scored from third on an RBI single. Senior Sarah Yoos would come around to score on an RBI ground out by Ashley Ventura to give SJU a two-run edge.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, Pittsburgh answered back with a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth and an insurance run in the sixth to earn the victory.
In the circle, Ventura went four innings, allowing one earned run, while striking out four. Senior Anna Lauterbach was the hard-luck loser, allowing three runs over three innings of relief to fall to 1-2 on the year.
Saint Joseph's returns to action at Seton Hall on March 16.
