BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Florida Atlantic, 4-1, in a Wednesday matinee at FAU Stadium. Taylor Boyd notched two hits on the day to lead the Hawks.
Florida Atlantic (11-1) took the lead in the bottom of the first after Billy Endris singled and came in to score on a triple by C.J. Chatham.
Saint Joseph's (4-5) had an opportunity in the fifth as Boyd doubled and advanced on a wild pitch with one out, but FAU reliever Alex House came on and retired the next two batters to end the threat.
Endris struck again with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame that doubled the Owls' lead to 2-0.
The Hawks got on the board in the top half of the seventh. Cal Jadacki and Boyd hit consecutive one-out singles before Marc Giacalone hit a single of his own two batters later to score Jadacki and cut the deficit in half.
The Owls answered right away as a pair of singles and a double by Christian Dicks restored the two-run lead. Esteban Puerta then followed with a sacrifice fly to make it a 4-1 game.
SJU had two aboard with two outs in the eighth but nothing came of it before Cameron Ragsdale came on and threw a perfect ninth for his second save in as many days.
Robbie Coursel earned the win for Florida Atlantic, tossing three shutout innings. Ryan Otero took the loss for the Hawks, falling to 0-2 after allowing two runs on six hits in four and two-thirds innings.
After an off day, the Hawks will head to Port Charlotte for neutral site games against Western Michigan, Michigan State, and Central Michigan. First pitch against WMU on Friday is set for 3:30 p.m.
