AMHERST, Mass. - Freshman pitcher Ashley Ventura struck out eight over seven scoreless innings en route to helping the Saint Joseph's softball team take the series finale at Massachusetts, 3-0, Sunday afternoon.
With Sunday's win, the Hawks took two out of three from the Minutewomen to improve to 14-15-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the Atlantic 10.
Saint Joseph's opened the game scoring a run in the top of the first as Amanda Kulp scored off an RBI single by Sarah Yoos.
The Hawks added a pair of runs in the third to open a 3-0 edge. Kaylyn Zierke drew a bases loaded walk that scored Taryn Grober to make it 2-0, while senior Brandi Harkness followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Kulp to push the lead to three.
After three-hitless innings, Ventura scattered five hits over the final four innings and walked none to improve to 6-5 on the season.
At the plate, Kulp had a team-high two hits and two runs.
The Hawks return to action this Wednesday when they host LIU-Brooklyn at 4 p.m.
