MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's softball team picked up a 3-2 win in its series finale versus George Mason on Sunday afternoon at the SJU Softball Field.

Up 3-0 entering the seventh, the Hawks saw their lead cut to one, but got a timely out to end the threat.

In the third close contest in as many games, the Hawks (16-17-1, 4-7-1 Atlantic 10) opened the scoring in the bottom of the fifth as pinch runner Lauren Reilly scored from second on an RBI single to right field by Taryn Grober.

Junior Kaylyn Zierke added to the SJU lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run double that scored Kerrie Kortmann and Sarah Yoos to make it 3-0.

George Mason (19-18, 6-7) would battle back in the top of the seventh scoring an unearned run with one out to make it 3-1.

The Patriots made it 3-2 on an RBI single with two outs, leaving runners at the corners.

But SJU senior Anna Lauterbach closed the door getting a ground out to shortstop to end the game and pick up her seventh save on the year.

In the circle, freshman Ashley Ventura turned in another stellar performance, allowing an earned run on four hits over 6.1 innings to move to 8-6 on the year.

At the plate, Kortmann was 2-for-3, while Zierke added two RBIs to move her season total to 22.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Wednesday at Penn with the first game of a doubleheader set for 3 p.m.
