Forster Scores Overtime Game-Winner in 9-8 Win Over Penn

PHILADELPHIA – Senior midfielder Kevin Forster scored on a feed from junior attackman Mike Rastivo with 1:01 remaining in overtime to lift the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team to a 9-8 win over Penn on Tuesday evening at Rhodes Field. The win marked the program's first ever victory over the Quakers in 13 all-time meetings.

The Hawks have now won at least 10 games in one season for the fourth time in program history and for the third time in as many years.

Rastivo recorded a game-high six points on two goals and a game-high four assists while Forster (2g, 1a) and junior midfielder Kevin Reidinger tallied two goals apiece.

Penn jumped out to a 3-2 edge after the first quarter, but Saint Joseph's used a 5-1 run over the second quarter to jump out to a 7-4 lead by the halftime break. Reidinger scored back-to-back goals (11:28, 10:03) to open the second-quarter scoring before Forster netted his first of the night with 7:50 to play. Following a Penn score (5:44), sophomore attackman Kyle Cain tucked away his 19th on the season (4:52) before junior defenseman Shane Taggert put away his first collegiate goal with 30 ticks remaning before the halftime break.

Rastivo opened the third-quarter scoring on a man-up goal, assisted by Forster, to double the Hawks' advantage, 8-4, at the 13:53 mark, but Penn tore off of a 4-0 run that spanned just over 22 minutes; Simon Mathias closed the run with the equalizer with 2:50 remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.

For the game, Penn held a 35-24 edge in shots while Saint Joseph's won the ground ball battle 24-14.

Junior face-off specialist Mike Lanham went 14-of-20 from the X, including an 8-of-12 first-half showing.

Junior goalkeeper T.J. Jones (10-3) made seven saves in the full 62:59 to pick up his 10th win of the season, a new single-season program record.

Saint Joseph's will close the 2016 regular season at home against Mount St. Mary's this Saturday, April 30. Opening face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.
