MERION STATION, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's baseball team fell to Delaware, 11-2, at an unseasonably cool and overcast Smithson Field on Tuesday afternoon.

Neither team had a runner reach second base until the top of the fourth, when Delaware (27-18) scored three runs without recording a hit, as three walks, two hit batters, and a sacrifice fly gave the Blue Hens a 3-0 lead.

UD added on to the lead in the fifth as Nick Tierno's two-run double scored Kevin Mohollen and Kyle Baker to push the margin to 5-0.

Saint Joseph's (22-18) put a pair of runners on in the sixth after a single by Taylor Boyd and a walk by Deon Stafford, Jr., but after a wild pitch put the runners on second and third with two away, Zach Flowers induced a fly ball out of Charlie Coghlin to end the inning.

Tierno added an RBI single in the seventh to extend the Blue Hen advantage before a Jordan Glover groundout made it a 7-0 game.

The Hawks broke through in the bottom of the frame, as Charlie Concannon led off with a double off the wall and came in to score on an infield single by Cal Jadacki.

Brian Mayer tacked on a pair for Delaware with a two-run home run to left in the top of the eighth.  Stafford then extended his hitting streak to 14 games with an RBI single in the bottom of the inning, scoring Boyd, who had led off with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball.

A two-run double by Jeremy Ake in the top of the ninth closed out the scoring for the afternoon.

Kevin Milley allowed just three hits and struck out six over five innings to improve to 2-0 for the Blue Hens.  Matt Pennell was charged with the loss after he walked a pair and hit a batter and all three came in to score.  Pat Vanderslice tossed the first two innings for SJU, allowing one hit but facing the minimum, while Ryan Otero and Nick Roth threw perfect innings in relief as well.

The Hawks will now head to La Salle for their final three road games of the season.  First pitch in Friday's series opener is set for 3:00 p.m at Hank DeVincent Field.
