MERION STATION, Pa. - Senior Cyndi Wilson homered twice and classmate Sarah Yoos matched the Saint Joseph's single-season mark for home runs with her 10th as the Hawks topped St. Bonaventure, 8-1, Saturday afternoon at the SJU Softball Field.
The two teams cap their series with a doubleheaders set for noon on Sunday.
On the day, St. Bonaventure manufactured a run in the top of the first, but that is all SJU starter Ashley Ventura would give up, keeping the Bonnies off the board over the next four innings.
Saint Joseph's (21-23-1, 9-11-1 Atlantic 10), which honored its senior class prior to first pitch, got a lift from Wilson in the bottom of the second as she blasted a solo shot to tie the game at 1-1.
Junior Madeline Brunck singled home Yoos and Lauren Reilly to push the lead to 3-1 in the fourth.
A five-run fifth blew open the game as Raelynn Genovese started the action with an RBI double. Yoos followed with a two-run homer that scored Raelynn Genovese. After a double by Kaylyn Zierke and a fly out, Wilson stepped in and drilled her second home run of the day, this time over the left field wall to make it 8-1.
Senior Anna Lauterbach made the lead stand, keeping the Bonnies off the board to preserve the win. Ventura picked up the victory to move to 12-7 overall on the year.
