#18/16 Duke Upends Men's Lacrosse, 16-3

DURHAM, N.C. – For the third game in a row, senior midfielder Kevin Reidinger scored twice, but the Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team dropped its road opener at #18/16 Duke, 16-3, at Koskinen Stadium on Saturday afternoon. After facing three nationally-ranked opponents to open the season, the Hawks sit 0-3 overall, while the Blue Devils improve to 3-2. 

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 4-0 advantage before Reidinger scored his first of the day at the 4:24 mark of the first quarter.

Duke then scored the next six goals of the game before Reidinger scored his second of the day and sixth of the season, on an assist from junior midfielder Kyle Cain, at the 6:33 mark of the second.

The Blue Devils tacked on two more to take a 12-2 lead into the halftime break and went on to outscore the Hawks 4-1 in the second half, including a shutout third quarter, for the eventual 16-3 win.

Junior attackman Patrick O'Brien scored his first goal as a Hawk, on a feed from senior midfielder Evan Wolf, at the 13:12 mark of the fourth quarter.

For the game, Duke held advantages in shots (37-21) and ground balls (33-16) and went 14-for-23 in face-off opportunities to go with an 18-for-19 showing in clear attempts. 

Reidinger led the Hawks with five shots, while senior defenseman Shane Taggert and junior midfielder Davis Stoner scooped up three ground balls apiece. 

Senior goalkeeper T.J. Jones (0-3) started and closed the game, making 12 saves and allowing 13 goals in 50:06. Junior goalkeeper Pat Dallon came in for the final 9:54 of the second quarter and made one save and let in three goals in that time. 

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Wednesday, March 1 at St. John's. Opening face-off at DaSilva Memorial Field is slated for 3:00 p.m.

GAME NOTES: Freshman face-off specialist Garrison Kedda, freshman midfielder CJ Stowell, and freshman defensemen Josh Bosher, Liam Hare, and Tate Hutchinson made their collegiate debuts...  Sophomore face-off specialist Daniel Lanham and sophomore midfielder Thomas LaRose made their season debuts...  Saint Joseph's falls to 0-2 all-time against Duke.
