PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph's junior midfielder Aly Gormley scored a career-high four goals and senior goalkeeper Amelia Deibler made 13 saves to lead the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team to a 13-8 win over Wagner in SJU's non-conference finale on Sweeney Field on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks improve to 4-4 while the Seahawks fall to 2-7.

Nine different Hawks recorded a point in the victory, led by Gormley (4g, 1a), graduate student midfielder Mallory Grey (1g, 3a), freshman attacker Hope Anhut (3g), and senior attacker Sarah Smith (1g, 2a).

On the defensive end, Kate Payne had a career day as the junior recorded a career-high five turnovers on Wagner's offensive unit and matched a career-high four ground balls.

"It's a great win for our team as we complete our non-conference competition," said head coach Alex Kahoe following the game. "Our offense stepped up with multiple goal winners . . . Defensively, we had some great stops."

The Hawks opened up with a four-goal run over the first 5:21 with back-to-back scores from freshman attacker Hope Anhut (29:51, 29:20) and back-to-back EMO goals from senior attacker Nora McCallion (26:52) and Grey (24:39).

Wagner scored twice within a minute (23:03, 22:03) to close its deficit to two goals, but freshman midfielder Bridget Cerciello (20:38), Gormley (15:49), and Smith (10:12) scored to extend SJU's lead to five, 7-2, and would take a 7-3 lead into the halftime break.

The Seahawks used a 4-2 run over the first 9:47 of the second half to pull to within two goals once again, 9-7, but the Hawks combined for a trio of scores from freshman midfielder Penny Green (15:03), Gormley (11:11), and Cerciello (4:15) to extend SJU's lead out to five goals.

Wagner's Anna Belle Reilly scored with 3:43 to play, but Anhut scored on a feed from Grey with 14 ticks on the scoreboard to secure SJU's second victory in as many games.

For the game, Saint Joseph's owned a 37-24 advantage in shots and 24-17 edge in ground balls and won 13 of 23 possessions from the circle. The Hawks forced 19 Seahawk turnovers, including six off of failed clear attempts.

SJU was also a perfect 3-0 in EMOs and held Wagner scoreless in four eight-meter attempts.

Deibler (3-3) was outstanding in net, making 13 total saves, quite a few of which were from close range. The senior goalkeeper added a career-high three ground balls and caused her first collegiate turnover, as well. Eight goals allowed marks her lowest number through all six games this spring.

Saint Joseph's opens Atlantic 10 action this Friday, March 31 against Davidson (2-4). Start time on Sweeney Field is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. The Wildcats face Elon to close their non-conference schedule on Sunday, March 26 before heading to Philadelphia.

"Our non-conference games have really helped to prepare our team as we head into conference games," added Kahoe. "Our team has shown a lot of resiliency and has worked really hard and stepped up in many areas. We're excited to move forward as we begin A-10 play."
