BRONX, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped a doubleheader at Fordham on Sunday. Bouncing back from a 7-0 loss in the opener, the Hawks went to extra innings versus the Rams in game two before falling in 10 innings, 4-3.
In game two, the Hawks (9-18, 3-3 Atlantic 10) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Amanda Kulp scored on a RBI single off the bat of Sarah Ostaszewski.
A RBI single by Madison Clarke scored Lauren Reilly in the fourth to push the Hawks' lead to 2-0.
Fordham rallied to tie the game in the sixth with a pair of runs, and both teams failed to score in the seventh forcing the second extra inning game in the series.
After two scoreless innings, Saint Joseph's regained the lead thanks to a solo home run by Caela Abadie to make it 3-2 in favor of the Hawks.
Unfortunately for SJU, the host Rams rallied in the bottom of the 10th and earned the win on a two-run home run by Jessica Hughes.
In the circle, Ashley Ventura worked the entire game for SJU, allowing four runs despite collecting nine strike outs in the tough-luck loss.
In the opener, Fordham took advantage of Hawk error to plate four runs in the bottom of the second to take a 4-0 edge.
The Rams added to their lead with a run in the third and two more in the sixth to open a 7-0 lead.
Fordham would hold on for the win as it held SJU to just three hits in the game.
Kaylyn Zierke, Stacey Mayer and Jancarla Herrera accounted for SJU's three hits in the game.
Madison Clarke fell to 2-5 with the loss as she allowed four runs, only one of which was earned, in 1.2 innings of work.
Saint Joseph's returns to action at Lehigh on Wednesday with a doubleheader set to beging at 3 p.m.
