MERION STATION, Pa. - Saint Joseph's sophomore Amanda Kulp matched the Hawks' single-season mark for stolen bases with her 25th, but the SJU softball team dropped a pair of games to Massachusetts on Sunday.
Playing a continuation from a game on Saturday, the Hawks fell 1-0 in game one and dropped a 3-1 contest to the Minutewomen in game two.
Kulp, who went 1-for-3 in game two, tied Dana Park's record for single-season stolen bases in the bottom of the first in game two.
Despite the record-tying steal, Saint Joseph's (18-22, 9-5 Atlantic 10) found itself down 3-0 late.
A two-run home run to left field by Jena Cozza put Massachusetts up 2-0 in the top of the first and she added an insurance run in the sixth as she scored on a sacrifice fly by Kaycee Carbone to make it 3-0.
An RBI single by Sarah Ostaszewski cut Massachusetts' lead to 3-1 in the sixth, but the Hawks would come no closer.
For the game, Ostaszewski went 2-for-3 with the RBI, while classmate Jancarla Herrera scored the run.
In the circle, Ashley Ventura fell to 11-10 on the year as she allowed two earned runs on five hits, while striking out four over seven innings of work.
In game one, the Hawks and Minutewomen returned to play with the visitors up 1-0 in the bottom of the third after rain halted play on Saturday.
A two-out RBI single by Jena Cozza in the top of the third proved to be the decisive run as Saint Joseph's Ventura and Massachusetts' Meg Colleran battled in a pitchers duel.
Down by one coming into their final at-bat, the Hawks' Kaylyn Zierke singled with one out.
Unfortunately for SJU, Colleran got a strike out and a batter's interference was called on the swing leading to the final out of the game.
For the game, Ostaszewski, Zierke and Stacey Mayer accounted for Saint Joseph's three hits.
In the circle, Ventura allowed just one run on five hits, while striking out a game-high five in the complete game.
The Hawks return to action on Wednesday with a doubleheader at La Salle set to begin at 3 p.m.
