Box Score

EMMITSBURG, Md. – The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse squad defeated Mount St. Mary's, 15-11, to cap the 2017 season at Waldron Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Hawks conclude the season with a 5-9 overall record and a 2-4 mark in Northeast Conference play while the Mountaineers finished their spring at 4-10 (1-5 NEC).

Junior attackman Chris Blewitt finished with a game-high seven points on two goals and a career-high five assists. Junior midfielder Hayes McGinley led all scorers with four goals while freshman attackman James Bohlinger recorded his first collegiate hat trick.

Trailing by four goals late into the first half of play, Mount St. Mary's fired off three in a row to close its deficit to one, 8-7, at the 11:12 mark of the third quarter.

From there, the Hawks scored five of the game's next six as junior attackman Jason Kelly scored on a dish from McGinley (8:48) and Blewitt scored on a feed from junior midfielder Kyle Cain (6:28) to close out the third quarter scoring. The Mount tallied its eighth goal of the game just 42 seconds into the fourth, but senior midfielder Ray Vandegrift (12:19) and McGinley (10:04, 8:50) combined for three consecutive goals to push SJU's lead out to five, 13-8.

The Mountaineers would score three of the game's final five goals (6:52, 6:28, 5:18), but two of Bohlinger's career-high three scores came in the final minutes, as the rookie tucked a pair away with 6:11 to play and 4:21 remaining to keep the Mount at a distance until time expired.

Mount St. Mary's owned a 43-35 edge in shots, including a 17-9 advantage in the fourth quarter, and scrapped for 34 ground balls compared to SJU's 25. However, the Hawks went 18-for-30 from the X as senior face-off specialist Danny Manning took all 30 attempts to match a career-high 18 wins from the circle to go with a game-high eight ground balls.

Senior goalkeeper T.J. Jones (5-9, 2-4 NEC) made 12 saves in the full 60:00 for his program-record 31st career victory between the pipes.

Trailing 2-1 early, the Hawks had used five consecutive goals from Cain (1st, 7:14), McGinley (1st, 4:16), Cain (1st, 3:59), Blewitt (1st, 0:12), and Bohlinger (2nd, 12:47) to jump out to a 6-2 lead early in the second quarter and used an even 3-3 second quarter to own an 8-5 edge at the halftime break.
