BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's softball team lost a pair of close games at Lehigh on Wednesday. The Hawks fell 3-1 in nine innings in the opener and 2-1 in the nightcap.
In game one, Lehigh took a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded hit-by-pitch.
The Hawks tied the game at 1-1 in the fifth as sophomore Amanda Kulp scored off an RBI single by Sarah Ostaszewski.
The game remained tied, and after a scoreless eighth, the Mountain Hawks earned the win, 3-1, on a two-run home run by Carolyn Wright.
At the plate, Kulp went 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Ashley Ventura fell to 6-8 after going 8.1 innings of work, allowing three earned runs and striking out eight.
In game two, Lehigh scored once in the fifth and once in the sixth to take a 2-0 lead heading into the top of the seventh.
Saint Joseph's rallied though and made it a 2-1 game as Raelynn Genovese scored on a single by Kulp. The Hawks' would get the go-ahead run on base, but the Mountain Hawks worked out of the jam to earn the win.
Freshman Jancarla Herrera went 2-for-3, while junior Madison Clarke fell to 2-6 after going 6.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on three hits, while striking out three.
The Hawks (9-20) are back in action this weekend when they host Rhod Island in a three game series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon.
