• Saint Joseph's lost its second straight with a 72-69 defeat at Massachusetts, as the Minutemen rallied from a 16-point deficit. Shavar Newkirk and James Demery each had 22 points
while freshman Anthony Longpré had a season-high 11
Shavar Newkirk has scored 20-plus points in three straight games, averaging 23.0 ppg during this stretch
James Demery is averaging 19.8 points since A-10 play started and has scored in double figures in all 16 games this year
• Freshman Taylor Funk is second in the Atlantic 10 in three-point field goals made per game (3.1) and ranks 28th in the nation

• Dayton led by as much as 60-46 but the Hawks trimmed it to 60-53. They came as close as 66-63, but Scoochie Smith scored five straight to help put the game away

• The freshman posted 11 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 31 minutes

TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
• After leading the nation the first week of January, Saint Joseph's now ranks second in fewest total turnovers with 151; the Hawks are third in turnovers per game (9.4)
• SJU has recorded single digits in turnovers in seven of 16 games, with a low of three twice this year, most recently at George Mason

BALANCED ATTACK
• The Hawks had five players score double figures against VCU, marking the first time that occurred this season

MAGIC NUMBER
Shavar Newkirk surpassed the 900-career point mark at UMass and now has 922 points. The senior has played in 95 career games
