The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team put forth another strong effort Friday night versus Quinnipiac, but the Bobcats prevailed in the end, 5-2.
The Hawks opened the match picking up the doubles point with wins at the second and third flights. Laura Gomez and Lourdes Sprinckmolle earned a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles over Proyfon Lohophaisan and Scarlett Byldenburgh, while sisters Maureen Devlin and Katherine Devlin teamed for a 6-4 decision over Dominique Vasile and Stephanie Yannosov at the third flight.
In singles play, Isis Gill-Reid was a straight-set winner at the fourth flight, topping Layla Rodriguez, 7-5, 7-5. Gomez battled at the third flight with Payton Bradley, but fell in the super-breaker of a highly-competitive match, 7-6 (2), 5-7, 11-9.
The Bobcats picked up wins at the other four singles flights to earn the team win.
"A strong showing in winning the doubles point, but the opposition wore us down," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "Excellent match by Isis and another strong outing by Laura highlighted the singles play."
The Hawks are back in action on Saturday when they host Bucknell at 6 p.m. at the Springton Indoor Club.
