CLEARWATER, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast scored with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to top the Saint Joseph's softball team, 2-1, in the Michele Smith Pediatric Cancer Invitational on Friday.
With the score knotted at 1-1, FGCU broke the tie as Racquel Fournet rocketed a high drive into left center where the ball was misplayed, allowing the game-winning run to score from second base.
FGCU opened the scoring in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout.
Saint Joseph's evened the game in the fourth as junior Taryn Grober scored on an error by the FGCU shortstop off a hard-hit ball by senior Lauren Reilly.
The game remained tied until the final at-bat.
In the circle, junior Ashley Ventura was the hard-luck loser as she allowed just one earned run on seven hits, while striking out six.
At the plate, Stacey Mayer collected two of SJU's four hits as she finished the game 2-for-4.
