Sweeping all six singles matches, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Chestnut Hill on Monday.
Playing outdoors at home for the first time this season, the Hawks jumped out to an early lead in singles play and never let up. Amanda Nava topped Mia Covic 6-3, 6-1 at the top flight, with Laura Gomez earning a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Nicola Guzowska at No. 2 singles.
Veterans Maureen Devlin and Isis Gill-Reid picked up 6-0, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2 wins at the third and fourth flights, respectively, while rookie Lourdes Sprinckmoller posted a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the fifth set. Freshman Madeline Hill topped Nicole Young, 6-1, 6-0, in the sixth flight to cap the sweep for SJU.
In doubles play, Gomez and Sprinckmoller picked up a 6-3 win at the first flight, but Chestnut Hill earned wins at the second and third flights to earn the final point.
"It was great to be outdoors and our singles play showed it," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "Singles first permitted us to play some other squad members in doubles and everyone enjoyed the outdoors."
The Hawks (2-8) are back in action at Rhode Island on March 31.
