AMHERST, Mass. - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped its series finale at Massachusetts, 8-4, on Sunday. The Hawks, who had four different players collect an RBI on the day, return home to host Lehigh on Wednesday in a doubleheader slated for a 3 p.m. start.

Saint Joseph's (13-18, 2-7 Atlantic 10) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Molly Kapala scored off a single by Lauren Reilly.

Massachusetts (20-10, 9-0 A-10) answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first and two more in the bottom of the second against SJU starter Ashley Ventura.

The Minutewomen added to their lead with four runs in the fourth to make it 8-1, but the Hawks rallied.

Kapala and Sarah Ostaszewski each singled home a run in the fifth to make it 8-3, while Amanda Kulp scored Jancarla Herrera off an infield single in the sixth to get SJU to within four.

Saint Joseph's would have a chance to tie the game later in the sixth with the bases loaded and only one out, but Massachusetts worked out of the jam and set the Hawks down without a run in the seventh to close out the game.

For the game, Ostaszewski went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Kapala was 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Ventrua fell to 5-10 on the season with the loss as she went 3.2 innings allowing five earned runs on five hits, while striking out one. Senior Madison Clarke allowed just one hit in 2.1 innings of relief.
