Softball Tripped Up At Drexel, 8-2

The Saint Joseph's softball team fell at Drexel, 8-2, on Wednesday in the Hawks' final away contest of the season.

The Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first courtesy of a two-run single by Caela Abadie that scored Molly Kapala and Amanda Kulp.

The Dragons cut SJU's lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the third on a sacrifice fly by Linda Rush against starter Chelsea Evans.

After a scoreless fourth, Drexel took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a three-run homer by Kristi DiMeo.

The Dragons added four more runs in the sixth and set the Hawks down in order in the seventh to close out the 8-2 win.

At the plate, Kulp went 2-for-4 with a run scored, while Abadie and Sarah Ostaszewski accounted for Saint Joseph's other two hits on the day.

In the circle, Evans moved to 4-3 on the season with the loss as she was charged with six earned runs over 5.1 innings of work. Junior Ashley Ventura allowed an unearned run in 0.2 innings of relief.

Saint Joseph's (21-15) wraps up the regular season this weekend with a three-game series at home versus St. Bonaventure starting with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday.
