Men's Soccer Suffers 2-0 Setback at Manhattan

Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan scored a pair of second-half goals to hand the Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad a 2-0 road loss at Gaelic Park on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 4-3-0 and 1-3-0 on the road while the Jaspers improve to 6-1-0 overall.

Manhattan scored first on a free kick opportunity awarded just outside the top of the box in the 53rd minute. Berti Fourrier came down the left wing and swung a pass in to Lucas Da Silva, who was taken down by a Hawk for the offensive opportunity. Adrien Awana cleared SJU's five-man wall and fired his shot past SJU freshman goalkeeper Joseph Boehm, diving to his right, and into the back of the net.

Manhattan added its insurance goal in the 75th minute as Troy Carrington beat his defender 1-v-1 before finishing far left. Fourrier affected that play as well as he was credited with the assist.

For the match, Manhattan held a 17-7 advantage in shots and landed five of those shots on goal, compared to SJU's two; sophomore defender David Grana fired off a shot on net in the 18th minute while sophomore midfielder Aidan Watkins had a good look in the 84th minute.

Boehm (4-3-0) made three saves, in the 25th, 26th, and 62nd minutes, in the full 90:00.

Saint Joseph's returns home to host VMI (0-6-0) this Wednesday, September 19. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. on Sweeney Field.
