NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's men's cross country freshman Matthew Coffey has been selected the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honors marks the first of Coffey's collegiate career.
With a time of 28:06.3, Coffey placed sixth in a field of 102 racers at the 2019 Delaware Invitational, held at White Clay Creek State Park on Saturday morning. Finishing as SJU's #4 runner, Coffey scored and took home the fastest overall performance by a rookie to help lead the Hawks to the team title.
Coffey and the Hawks return to action this Saturday, October 5 at the Lehigh Paul Short Run. A full preview of the prestigious race to be held at the Goodman Campus in Bethlehem, Pa. will follow later this week.
