Men's Basketball Takes On Florida In Charleston Classic Opener Thursday

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Saint Joseph's men's basketball team caps its six-game road swing this week at the Charleston Classic as the Hawks open tournament play versus Florida on Thursday. Thursday's game, set for a 2 p.m. tip, will be televised on ESPN2, with free audio available on TuneIn.

• Thursday marks just the fourth meeting between Florida and Saint Joseph's, with the Gators holding a 2-1 edge in the all-time series.
• All three previous meetings came at in-season tournaments: the 1956 Carousel Tournament, the 1967 Gator Bowl and the 2015 Hall of Fame Tip-Off.
• Saint Joseph's victory over Florida came in the opening game of the Gator Bowl, with the Hawks going on to top Washington for the title, 79-74.
• The Hawks have captured 16 in-season tournament titles, the most recent coming at the 2010 Philly Hoop Group Classic.
• This week marks the second time the Hawks have competed in the Charleston Classic, having previously finished third at the 2011 Charleston Classic 
• In 2011, the Hawks opened with a 66-53 win over Georgia Tech, lost to Seton Hall in the semifinals, 78-70, and capped the tournament with a 75-70 victory against Tulsa.
• Earlier this month, Saint Joseph's topped UConn, 96-87, in a non-bracketed Charleston Classic contest at Gampel Pavilion.
• The Hawks are coming off an 85-68 loss at Loyola Chicago on Saturday.
Taylor Funk's 15 points led four Hawks in double figures versus the Ramblers.
• Saint Joseph's will face either Miami or Missouri State on Friday.

DALY NAMED BIG 5 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Averaging 21.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game last week, redshirt junior Ryan Daly was named Big 5 Player of the Week on Monday.

HAWKS MATCH RECORD AT GAMPEL
Scoring 96 points in its victory at Connecticut, Saint Joseph's tied a  record at Gampel Pavilion for points scored by an opponent. The original mark was set by Villanova on February 18, 1995.

NEXT UP
Following the Charleston Classic, the Hawks return home for three straight games, starting November 30 versus Saint Francis (Pa.).
