GREENWOOD, Ind. – For the first time in Saint Joseph's men's soccer's 62-year program history, a Hawk has earned multiple Academic All-American honors as junior defender David Grana has repeated as a CoSIDA Academic All-American selection, landing a spot on this year's Third Team. As selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), Grana was voted onto the Academic All-District First Team back on November 17 and advanced from there.
Grana, who earned Second Team honors a year ago, becomes just the third Academic All-American selection in program history, joining Ryan Dougherty (Third Team, 2001).
He is also just one of 11 repeat selections on the Academic All-American teams from 2018 and the only repeat selection out of the A-10.
Grana started all 18 matches as a right back on SJU's defensive line and took two shots on the season, hitting the back of the net on both. Grana amassed 1,489 minutes to rank fourth on the team in minutes played for an average of 82.7 minutes per match and was also one of four Hawks - and the only defender - to start every match.
Joining Grana on the Academic All-American Third Team are fellow defenders Kasey French (University of Washington), Connor Ramlo (Creighton University), and Ben Wendell (University of Cincinnati), midfielders Jack Casey (University of Notre Dame), Noah Leibold (University of Wisconsin), and Zach Mass (Utah Valley University), forwards Miguel Berry (University of San Diego), Leandros Lillis (Temple University), and Johannes Pieles (Fordham University), and goalkeeper Jalon Hagay (Florida Atlantic University).
A biology major out of Rochester, New York, Grana plans to become an anesthesiologist upon graduation from Hawk Hill in May 2021.
