Softball Tops George Mason In Series Finale, 4-0

Saint Joseph's junior Molly Kapala went 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and senior pitcher Ashley Ventura allowed just three hits as the Hawks' softball team topped George Mason, 4-0, on Sunday in the series finale at the SJU Softball Field. Taking two of three games from the Patriots on the weekend, Saint Joseph's improved to 20-16 overall and 9-3 in the Atlantic 10.

The Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Carly Rybinski scored from second on a two-out singly by Kapala.

Kapala extended SJU's lead to 3-0 in the third on a two-out double that scored Amanda Kulp and Sarah Ostaszewski, while Ostaszewski pushed the Hawks' lead to 4-0 in the fifth on a two-out double that scored Rybinski.

Ventura would make the lead stand as she allowed just three hits on the day, to go along with five strikeouts, to pick up the shutout win and improve to 11-11 on the year.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Penn in a single game at 4 p.m.
