Softball Drops Pair At Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped a pair of close contests at Fordham on Friday as the Hawks fell to the Rams, 3-1 and 2-1.

In the opener, Fordham took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an unearned run, but the Hawks battled back to tie it at 1-1 on a solo home run by Molly Kapala in the top of the fourth.

Unfortunately for SJU, the Rams answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth as they prevailed, 3-1.

SJU senior pitcher Ashley Ventura allowed two earned runs on seven hits and struck out one as she moved to 11-12 on the season.

In game two, Fordham took a 2-0 edge into the top of the seventh, but the Hawks fought back to make it 2-1 as pinch runner Jordan Hinkle scored from second on a throwing error by the center fielder off a single by Taylor Marinelli

Saint Joseph's couldn't get the tying run past second though as the Rams got three-straight outs to close out the game.

Rookie pitcher Amanda Herr moved to 7-2 with the loss as she allowed two runs on six hits, while striking out two.

The two teams cap their three-game series with a single game at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
