ORLANDO, Fla. - The Saint Joseph's softball team opened its 2020 schedule going 1-1 on the first day of the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Classic on Friday. The Hawks began the day falling to Georgia Southern 5-1, but capped it with a 2-1 victory over Charleston Southern.
How It HappenedÂ
Game 1
• Georgia Southern took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on a fielder's choice by Ellington Day.
• The Hawks tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the third as
Jancarla Herrera scored on a two-out single by
Sarah Ostaszewski.
• Allyssah Mullis put Georgia Southern ahead 3-1 in the top of the sixth on a two-run home run to right center.
• The Eagles added two insurance runs in the seventh to secure the victory.
Game 2
• Charleston Southern opened a 1-0 edge in the bottom of the first on a RBI single.

Molly Kapala drove in
Kirstin Cox with a RBI double in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
•
Caela Abadie put the Hawks ahead 2-1 in the top of the fifth on a RBI single that scored Kapala.
• Rookie pitcher
Saige Stutz set Charleston Southern down in order in the bottom of the seventh to secure the complete game victory in her collegiate debut.

The Hawks (1-1) continue play at the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Classic on Saturday with a noon matchup against Bethune-Cookman and a 5 p.m. contest against Appalachian State.
