MEDIA, Pa. – The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team took on its first Atlantic 10 opponent of the season on Saturday night, falling to Rhode Island, 5-2, and the Springton Tennis Club.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Rhode Island took the early lead with a clean sweep of the doubles matches, but a default in the sixth singles flight gave the Hawks a point to tie things up.
• The Rams would go on to clinch the match with four singles wins, but
Paige Conrad would secure another point for the Hawks along the way, winning her fifth-flight tilt, 6-4, 2-6, 10-8 in a supertiebreaker.
HAWK TALK
"It was a very solid match against a more experienced squad," head coach
Ian Crookenden said. "An excellent match from Paige, who came through in the clutch. Our doubles play looked solid, especially at number one and number three, and is getting more balanced. A lot has been gained, and every match we are putting more of the pieces together for this squad to succeed."
