LAST TIME OUT
• Headed for their third consecutive loss to start the season, the Hawks turned things around in a huge second half on Saturday, outscoring Towson 8-2 over the final 25 minutes of the second half to come away with a thrilling 13-12 win over the Tigers.
• After an early second-half goal staked the visitors to a five-goal lead, the Hawks ripped off seven of the next eight goals in the contest to take a 12-11 lead. The Tigers netted an equalizer with 3:29 to play, but
Stephanie Kelly found
Sophia Kolkka for the game-winner with 46 seconds to go in the game. Towson would control the ensuing draw and have one last chance at tying the game, but
Julia Pash caused her fifth turnover of the game in the final seconds to cap off a strong defensive effort and seal the win.
• Kelly scored three goals and added two assists for a game-high five points on the day, while
Penny Green netted a hat trick of her own.
• Temple (1-2) fell to #6 Princeton, 16-14, at home on Saturday. The Owls held an 8-6 lead at halftime and eventually went ahead 13-12 on consecutive goals by Riley McGowan, but the Tigers closed the game on a 4-1 run over the final seven minutes to escape with the win. McGowan and Bridget Whitaker led the Owls with four goals apiece, while Jen Rodzewich notched a hat trick as well.
SCOUTING THE HAWKS
• Kelly is the Hawks' leading scorer, totaling eight points on six goals and two assists.
Bridget Cerciello and
Sam McGee have each scored six goals as well, while Green is close behind with five.
• Kelly and
Taylor Newman-Farr have each handed out a pair of assists thus far on the season.
• The Hawks' starting defensive unit has combined for 15 caused turnovers over the course of the season's first three games, including eight in Saturday's win.
Mikala Davis has started all three games in net for the Hawks, making 23 saves, while both
Amber Weedon and
Mary Peticca have seen time in relief.
SCOUTING THE OWLS
• Whitaker leads the Temple offense with seven goals and 11 points on the season. Rodzewich has tallied six goals on just seven shots and added one assist, while Maddie Gebert's five goals and two assists also give her seven points thus far.
• Whitaker, Abby Overman, and Meghan Hoffman have all dished out four assists over the course of the Owls' first three games.
• Rodzewich has also been strong defensively, causing five turnovers, which ranks second to Courtney Taylor's six. Maryn Lowell has started all three games in the cage, while both Eryn Beal and Olivia Martin have both appeared in each contest as well.
