LAST TIME OUT

• Coastal Carolina (2-1) sandwiched wins over UNC Greensboro and UNC Wilmington around a loss to San Diego State.

• West Virginia (3-1) took two out of three from Jacksonville before a win on Tuesday over Canisius.

• Western Carolina (4-0) opened the season with a four-game home sweep of Chicago State over the weekend.

SCOUTING THE HAWKS
James McConnon led the Hawks over the season's first weekend with a .667 batting average and four runs scored.  For his efforts, he was tabbed the Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week.

Matt Cuppari had a four-RBI day against Pitt last Friday to lead the team in that category, while Brendan Hueth and Langston Livingston each went deep in the game against Ohio State.

Jordan DiValerio had an outstanding outing to kick off the season, allowing just a single unearned run and one hit while striking out nine in five innings.  He was named the Big 5 Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.

Jose Martinez, Cole Stetzar, and Luke Zimmerman had solid performances out of the bullpen as well.

SCOUTING THE CHANTICLEERS
• Brian Port was Coastal's leading hitter through the season's first three games, hitting .429.  Zach Beach and Morgan Hyde paced the Chanticleers with four RBI apiece, while Hyde and BT Riopelle both hit home runs for CCU.

• Zach McCambley allowed two unearned runs on five hits across seven innings in a win over UNC Greensboro last week.  Alaska Abney has tossed four and two-thirds shutout innings across two relief outings.

SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
• WVU hit nearly .300 as a team over its opening four games, with Austin Davis and Braden Zarbnisky leading the way at .545 and .529, respectively.  Zarbnisky and Tyler Doanes have chipped in with four RBI apiece, while Victor Scott has hit two triples and Matt McCormick has the Mountaineers' lone home run of the season.

• The Hawks are slated to see Ryan Bergert on Saturday, who allowed one run over six innings in a no-decision against Jacksonville.  Zarbnisky retired all five batters he faced across two outings to notch the save in both of WVU's victories.

SCOUTING THE CATAMOUNTS
• WCU outscored Chicago State 33-12 in the sweep, led by seven runs scored by Daylan Nanny.  Will Prater hit .455 to lead the Catamounts in batting average, while Angel Torres drove in six runs and Nanny added five RBI of his own.

• Ryan Mitschele is slated to pitch on Sunday after allowing one run on five hits in five and two-thirds innings of relief and earning a win against the Cougars.  The WCU bullpen allowed just five runs in 19.2 innings of work across the four-game series.

UP NEXT
• Saint Joseph's will play a three-game series at North Carolina Central beginning on Friday, February 28.

• Coastal Carolina visits the College of Charleston before hosting Maryland in a weekend series.

• West Virginia will take part in the Central Virginia Challenge next weekend, facing off with VCU, William and Mary, and Richmond.

• Western Carolina hosts Georgia State next week before taking on Ball State, Michigan State, and Kansas at MSU's First Pitch Invitational.
