Box Score RALEIGH, N.C. - Saint Joseph's senior
Caela Abadie drove in a pair of runs, but the Hawks' softball team fell to NC State, 7-2, in the first day of play at the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational.
How It HappenedÂ
• The Wolfpack jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second on a solo home run by Sam Sack.
• Saint Joseph's center fielder
Jancarla Herrera kept NC State from doing any more damage in the second as she made a highlight reel catch to rob a home run opportunity by Carson Shaner.
• A fielding error by the Hawks, followed by a two-run single by Sam Gress, led to three runs for NC State in the third as it opened a 4-0 edge.

Caela Abadie brought Saint Joseph's to within two in the top of the fourth with a two-run double that scored
Kirstin Cox and
Molly Kapala to make it 4-2.
• NC State answered back though in the bottom of the fourth as Angie Rizzi delivered a two-run home run and Gress added a RBI single to push the host Wolfpack's lead to 7-2.
• The Hawks were limited to just one hit - a single by
Carly Rybinski in the seventh - for the remainder of the game as NC State held on for the win.
• In the circle,
Ashley Stokes moved to 1-1 on the season as as she allowed four runs on five hits over 2.2 innings, while striking out three.

Amanda Herr tossed one inning, allowing three runs and striking out a pair, while
Saige Stutz pitched 2.1 shutout innings.
• Saint Joseph's and Indiana were set to open play Friday morning, but the contest was called off due to poor weather conditions.

The Hawks continue play at the Fairfield Crabtree Invitational on Saturday with a 12:30 p.m. contests against Bucknell and a 5:30 p.m. rematch against the Wolfpack.
