Golf Records Best-Ever CACC Championship Round; Devils Currently Fifth After Day One

Stats

WATERTOWN, Conn. – With three of its five golfers making their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship debut, the USciences Golf team recorded the lowest round in the program's CACC Championship history on Monday at Watertown Golf Club.

Initially scheduled for 36 holes today, and 54 holes in total, inclement weather allowed only 18 holes to be completed. The Championship will now only be 36 holes, with the second and final round scheduled to tee off at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow morning.

University of the Sciences is currently in fifth place, 14 strokes behind leader Goldey-Beacom, eight behind fourth-place Dominican, and five ahead of sixth-place Chestnut Hill.

The Devils' best-ever finish at the CACC Championship is seventh. They currently hold a 13-shot cushion on seventh-place Felician.

Not only is USciences' round of 314 nine strokes better than the program's previous CACC Championship record of 323, set in Fall 2017, it now stands as the third-lowest round in recorded program history (since Fall 2009).

Freshman Thomas Larkin is currently tied for sixth, four shots off the lead, after carding a 75, now the second-lowest round in the program's CACC Championship history behind teammate Tyler Blake's 74 in the first round of the 2019 Championship.

It is also now tied for the eighth-lowest round in recorded program history.

The best-ever finish by a USciences golfer at the CACC Championship is tied for seventh by Eric Jones in 2015.

Larkin is tied for the lead in the entire field of 40 in par-3 scoring at E, while ranking tied for second with three birdies.

Fellow freshman Joseph Kepic is tied for third in the field in par-5 scoring at -1 as he shot a 78, now tied for fifth in the program's CACC Championship history.

A third freshman, Adam Chen, is also in the top-half of the field in a tie for 20th after carding a collegiate-best round of 79, now tied for eighth in the program's CACC Championship history.

He is tied for seventh in birdies with two.

The aforementioned Blake shot an 82 to round out USciences' total, while sophomore Matthew McCaffrey carded an 88, tying his score from the single-round 2021 CACC Championship in April.
