Box Score WILMINGTON, Del. – The USciences volleyball team swept its second straight opponent, 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 at Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday night, giving the Devils a third straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win.
The Devils held off the Lightning with the final three points of the first set, on a Jennifer Marrero kill, GBC error and Angeli Roman Medina service ace, before comfortably taking the second.
University of the Sciences had to erase a 7-12 deficit in the third though, finally doing so when Natalia Velez and Tori Wright combined for five consecutive points to make the score 18-16.
GBC was able to tie the match three times, including at 20-20, but could never regain the lead, as Velez and Marrero each provided a kill had block assist, in-between service aces by Sydney Lawless and Rachel Chan, the latter of which ended the match.
Lawless led all players with a season-best three service aces, while also setting a new season-high with five digs.
University of the Sciences set new season-bests for both digs (48) and service aces (8) in a three-set match, with Lauren Lim's leading the Devils with 14 digs.
Velez was the lone player to reach double-digits in kills, finishing with 10 on .321 hitting, while Wright finished right behind her with nine.
University of the Sciences outhit Goldey-Beacom .241-.056.
Roman Medina and Caelin Jaskot both had a team-high 15 assists, while Marrero led all players with three blocks.
Roman Medina notably moved into eighth in program history with 733 career assists.
University of the Sciences hosts CACC leader and two-time defending CACC Tournament champion Holy Family this Thursday at 7 p.m.
