WATERTOWN, Conn. – The USciences golf team set new Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship program records for lowest round, lowest team total and placement at the Fall 2021 edition of the event hosted at Watertown Golf Club over the last two days.
University of the Sciences placed fifth in the field of eight, 13 strokes ahead of sixth-place Chestnut Hill, having previously never finished higher than seventh.
The Devils carded back-to-back 314s, not only the two-lowest CACC Championship rounds in program history by nine strokes (Fall 2017), but also two of the four-lowest rounds in recorded program history (since Fall 2009).
The total of 628 was a remarkable 32 shots lower than the previous CACC Championship program record of 660 set in 2019.
Not only was the 628 a new CACC Championship program record , it matched the recorded program record set just over three weeks ago at the Franklin Pierce Fall Invitational and was 17 shots lower than the previous recorded program record that dated back to Sept. 2013.
Freshmen Thomas Larkin and Joseph Kepic both made individual history as well.
Larkin's two-day total of 150, back-to-back 75s, broke the previous CACC Championship program record of 152 set by Eric Jones back in 2015. The Drexel Hill, Pa. native now has two of the four-lowest CACC Championship rounds by a Devil, trailing only his teammates Kepic and Tyler Blake.
His tied for eighth place finish in the field of 40 now trails only Jones, who tied for seventh in 2015, and he now holds two of the three-lowest two-round totals in recorded program history.
Kepic meanwhile carded a 74 today to tie Blake's CACC Championship program record from the first round in 2019, while also moving into a tie for sixth for lowest overall rounds in recorded program history.
After shooting a 78 yesterday, he matched Jones' 152 to move into a tie for fifth for lowest two-round total in recorded program history, which is also what his tied for 13th place finish ranks in the program's CACC Championship history.
Kepic led the entire field in par-5 scoring at -3, while Larkin was second in par-3 scoring at E. Both finished tied for fourth with four birdies.
Adam Chen also moved into the top-10 of the program's CACC Championship two-round totals, following yesterday's 79 with an 84, highlighted by finishing tied for ninth in the field in par-5 scoring at -1.
Matthew McCaffrey carded an 82, a six-stroke improvement from round one to fall one shot shy of his collegiate-best round.
The above-mentioned Blake rounded out University of the Sciences' Monday total with an 83.
University of the Sciences closes out its fall schedule the weekend after next at the two-day Le Moyne Invitational on Oct. 15-16.
