Box Score RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Trailing by two sets and then by a set and 20-24 in the fourth, the USciences volleyball team fought off four straight match-points and even had a set-point to force the fifth, before eventually falling to Felician on Saturday afternoon.
After the Golden Falcons won the opening two sets 25-21 and 25-15, the Devils' comeback attempt began while trailing 21-22 in the third.
A Tori Wright kill sparked a set-ending 4-1 run that also featured a kill from Bianca Galis.
Felician regained momentum midway through the fourth though, going up by as many as eight points at 14-6.
University of the Sciences could get no closer than four until a Kerrigan Clem kill staved off the first match point to make the score 21-24.
A Golden Falcons error followed, before Clem came up with a solo block to pull the Devils within one.
Following a Felician timeout, a Wright kill tied the score for the first time all set, before yet another Golden Falcons error gave USciences its own set point.
Another timeout led to two straight Felician points though, and despite another Wright kill momentarily tying the score back up, back-to-back Golden Falcons kills ended the match.
Wright's team and season-best 17 kills were two shy of the match-high. She swung a team-best .278 and also added 12 digs for her second double-double of the season.
Natalia Velez added 13 kills and Galis had a season-high 12, as USciences actually had three more kills than Felician, 53-50.
University of the Sciences also had nine more digs, 73-64, and two more blocks, 7-5, but the Devils were undone by the service game, which featured 14 errors and 10 service aces against.
Lauren Lim led all players with a season-best 18 digs, with Velez adding 14 for her second double-double of the season.
Angeli Roman Medina had 14 too, to go along with a team-high 32 assists to move into seventh in program history with 778 for her career.
Clem led all players with four blocks.
University of the Sciences closes out its non-conference schedule this Tuesday, hosting East Stroudsburg at 7 p.m.
