Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Tori Wright broke her own program record for kills in a three-set match, helping the USciences volleyball team secure its second three-match win streak of the season with a sweep of Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday night at Bobby Morgan Arena.
Not only did Wright's 23 kills break her previous record of 18 kills in a three-set match (25-point era), it was tied for the second-most kills in a three-set match in NCAA Division II this season.
The junior swung .455, recorded one more kill than the entire Goldey-Beacom team, and also led all players with four service aces.
Jennifer Marrero also made history on the night, becoming the 11th student-athlete in program history to reach 100 career block assists.
Her three block assists gave her 101 for her career, now 10th in program history, while her 54 block assists this year are tied for fifth in the single-season annals.
Natalia Velez had the match's second-highest kill total with 10 kills, while matching Marrero with a team-high three blocks assists.
Rachel Chan added seven kills and swung .286, while Kerrigan Clem contributed six on .600 hitting.
University of the Sciences outhit Goldey-Beacom .266-.113, setting a new season-best for kills in a three-set match with 46.
The Devils also set new season-highs for a three-set match in digs (58), assists (46) and service aces (9).
Angeli Roman Medina led USciences with 24 assists and 16 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
Lauren Lim was also in double-figures with 12 digs, while tying a career-best with six assists.
University of the Sciences scored 10 of the match's first 11 points en route to a dominant 25-13 first set, before taking the second and third by identical 25-22 score-lines.
Trailing 22-21 in the second, USciences scored the final four points, three of which were on kills by Wright, and it was much of the same in the third as the Devils scored the final three points, featuring two kills from Wright.
University of the Sciences travels to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) leader Holy Family this Thursday for a 6 p.m. first serve.
