Box Score PHILADELPHIA – Facing Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) leader Holy Family, who came into the evening 15-0 in league play, the USciences volleyball team was on its way to winning just the eighth set off the Tigers in the CACC this season.
The Devils were ahead 23-19 in the third after back-to-back points by Jennifer Marrero, a kill and block solo, before HFU scored seven of the final eight points to complete the sweep on Thursday.
Holy Family (21-3) had taken the first two sets, 25-13 and 25-18, before USciences opened the third similarly to how the Tigers had ended it, jumping ahead 6-1 after a block by Bianca Galis and Kerrigan Clem.
The Devils also led by five at 13-8 and at 21-16, the latter coming on a Natalia Velez kill, before HFU began a match-ending 10-3 run.
Velez had four more kills than any other player with 13 on .259 hitting, adding a team-best 14 digs for her eighth double-double in 10 matches.
Angeli Roman Medina also had a double-double with 13 assists and 10 digs to tie Velez for the team-lead with nine this season.
Galis and Caelin Jaskot (team-best 15 assists) both tied for a match-high with three block assists, as USciences out-blocked Holy Family 6-3.
Marrero added one block assist to move into a tie for fourth in the program's single-season history with 55 on the year.
Lauren Lim had 13 digs while Tori Wright had eight kills, with each respective total ranking third in the match.
University of the Sciences hosts its final match this Wednesday, welcoming Chestnut Hill to Bobby Morgan Arena. Prior to the 7 p.m. first serve, the Devils will honor Galis, Jaskot and Velez for Senior Day.
