Box Score MILLERSVILLE, PA. – A frantic second set comeback was not enough, as the USciences volleyball team fell in four in its non-conference opener at Millersville on Saturday afternoon.
After dropping the first set 18-25, the Devils quickly found themselves down 3-13 in the second.
They were still trailing 8-17 when six straight points, highlighted by Bianca Galis' three service aces, gave them life.
Still behind 19-22, two kills by Natalia Velez with a Tori Wright kill sandwiched in-between tied the set for a first time, and after the two teams traded the next three points, back-to-back errors help USciences stave off a set point and give the Devils their first lead, before a Kerrigan Clem kill evened the match at 1-1.
Millersville scored the first five points of the third though, eventually winning the two final sets by identical 25-18 scores.
Clem had seven kills on an efficient .778 hitting.
Velez and Wright had the two highest kill totals in the match, with 15 and 14 respectively.
University of the Sciences actually had eight more kills than Millersville, 44-36, but the Devils were undone by 37 errors, compared to the Marauders' 14.
Lauren Lim led all players with 10 digs, while Angeli Roman Medina's team-best 23 assists were two shy of a match-high.
Jennifer Marrero had a team-best three blocks, while Julia Vargo notably made her collegaite debut.
University of the Sciences plays another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) member this Tuesday, hosting West Chester at 7 p.m.
