Box Score PHILADELPHIA – The USciences volleyball team could not push past West Chester in two close sets, ultimately succumbing to the Golden Rams on Tuesday evening at Bobby Morgan Arena.
The Devils faced two four-point deficits in the first, first erasing an early 10-6 hole with a 7-2 surge to go ahead 13-12 on a Natalia Velez kill.
After WCU responded with five of the next six points to regain an 18-14 advantage, USciences could only get as close as one on three separate occasions, including when Tori Wright's kill made the score 22-21, before the Golden Rams scored the final three points.
West Chester (9-3) controlled the second set, 25-14, before University of the Sciences made one final push in the third.
Trailing 17-11, the Devils once again got as close as one, 19-18, scoring four out of five points on kills by Wright and service aces by Sydney Lawless and Caelin Jaskot, but the Golden Rams answered with back-to-back points and would maintain a multiple point advantage the rest of the way.
Angeli Roman Medina led USciences with 15 assists and 13 digs on the night, notably moving into 10th in program history with 653 career assists.
Lauren Lim was also in double-figures with 10 digs, while Velez and Wright each had a team-high nine kills.
University of the Sciences plays its second of three matches this week on Thursday at Chestnut Hill, with first serve scheduled for 7 p.m.
