Men’s Track & Field Records Successful Day at Moravian Invitational

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Saint Joseph's men's track and field team continued their season at the Moravian Invitational on Saturday. 

ABOUT THE EVENT:
  • The event took place at Lehigh's Rauch Fieldhouse. 
  • The Hawks were represented on the track in the one mile, 60-meter dash, 800 meters, 400 meters, 3,000 meters, 200 meters and the 4x400 meter relay. 
  • In the field events SJU was represented in the long jump and triple jump. 
  • Of note: Rauch Fieldhouse is a flat track and for most events there is a conversion to a banked track time. 
TRACK EVENTS:
  • Sophomore Tommy Johnson took the lead and never looked back in the one mile run. Johnson won in a time of 4:29.17, over 5 seconds ahead of the next finisher. 
  • Michael Welde continued his dominant season. The senior was the top Hawks finisher in the 60-meter dash placing third in a collegiate best time of 7.16. Freshman Matthew Kline (6th, 7.29) and sophomore Eric Ford (7th, 7.38) also finished in the top ten for SJU. 
  • St. Joe's also took gold in the 800 meters. Sophomore Sean Murphy won in a time of 2:00.52 
  • Jayden Greene claimed second in the 400 meter dash. The sophomore clocked a time of 51.64. Graduate Student Stephen McClellan (5th, 52.11) and freshman Jake Carrubba (10th, 53.21) also finished in the top 10 of the event.  
  • The 4x400 meter relay of McClellan, Greene, Carruba, and sophomore Lleyton Winslow claimed gold in a time of 3.31.42. 
FIELD EVENTS: 
  • Patrick Fehm had himself a day. In the long jump the sophomore lept a jump of 6.69 meters which was good for second overall. This result also moves him up to number four all-time for SJU long jumpers. Fehm also won the triple jump with a leap of 13.67 meters.

SJU returns to action on Friday at the Great Dane Classic at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
