Brennan and Huber Help Women's Basketball Pull Away from Caldwell in Fourth Quarter

Box Score

CALDWELL, N.J. – In a game that was played within a single possession for nearly the entirety of the opening three quarters, Isla Brennan and Jess Huber helped sparked a fourth quarter run that led to a 58-48 USciences women's basketball win at Caldwell on Sunday afternoon.

Brennan contributed to the Devils' first 10 points of the final period, scoring the first seven before finding Huber for a 3-pointer that created the first three-possession advantage of the contest, 47-40, with 6:45 remaining.

The Cougars (10-9, 5-5 CACC) momentarily got back within five, but four straight offensive rebounds on the next trip down the court eventually led to two Harlem Jennings free throws, before another Huber triple all but put the game away at 52-42 with 2:50 left.

University of the Sciences' defense finished the job, making five consecutive stops following Jennings' two foul shots as Caldwell did not score for a stretch of 5:26.

The Devils sealed the victory by making 6-of-8 free throws in the final 42 seconds.

University of Sciences (13-3, 8-2 CACC) outscored the Cougars 21-13 in the fourth after entering the quarter leading 37-35.

Huber and Brennan combined for 17, scoring nine and eight to finish with 15 and a season-best 11 points, respectively.

Both had a team-high three assists too, while Brennan also led all players with three steals and Huber had a career-best seven rebounds.

It was Kendall Keyes who led all players with 16 points, 10 of which came in the third quarter, while Shannon May pulled down a career and game-high 10 boards.

Juliana Gura, making her first career start, matched May with four offensive boards as USciences outrebounded Caldwell 42-33, helping the Devils outscore the Cougars 6-0 in second-chance points.

University of the Sciences also won the turnover battle with a new season-low, 15-7, leading to a 19-7 edge in points off turnovers.

The game was played within a single possession until Gura's layup made the score 21-16 with 4:38 remaining in the first half, but that lasted just 36 seconds as Caldwell ended the period on a 10-2 surge to take a 26-23 advantage into the break.

The game's second two-possession advantage, 37-33, came on Keyes' 3-pointer just 42 seconds ahead of the fourth quarter, but it lasted just 33 seconds as again the Cougars an answer to make the score 37-35 entering the final period.

University of the Sciences hosts two games this upcoming week, the first of which is on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. versus Georgian Court.
