Men's Track and Field Produces Strong Season Opener

STATEN ISLAND N.Y.- The Saint Joseph's men's track and field team opened its indoor season Friday night at the Fastrack season opener hosted at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Facility.
 
HOW THE HAWKS FINISHED:

TRACK EVENTS:
  • Kicking the night off for the Crimson and Gray were juniors Gavin Campbell and Owen Moelter who swept the first two spots in the mile run. Campbell won the event in a time of 4:15.39 while Moelter took second in a time of 4:15.49. Both times miss the IC4A qualification by a few hundredths of a second.
  • In the 500m, the Hawks secured third through fifth place. Junior Jayden Greene placed third in a time of 1:05.40, graduate student Kyle Magee was right behind him clocking a time of 1:06.47, and rookie Luke Noss rounded out the performance with a fifth place finish and a time of 1:06.47.
  • In his debut race in a Crimson and Gray jersey, rookie Tyhir Jones dazzled in the 400m dash. Jones not only won the event but also satisfied the IC4A qualification standard with his time of 49.13.  
  • Sophomore Graham Phillips won the 800m in a time of 1:59.33. The Hawks also took third through fifth place in this race as well.
  • The 4x800m relay of Campbell, Moelter, junior Sean Murphy, and Greene went on to win the event in a time of 7:47.89. This time also satisfies the IC4A qualification standard for this event.
  • Closing out the night of competition for the Crimson was the relay of rookie James Mackey Jr., Jones, Noss, and rookie Regent Walden, who placed second in a time of 3:21.97.
 UP NEXT:
The Hawks have an extended break from competition for the holiday season. They will return to action in the new year on Saturday, January 14 for the Nittany Lion Challenge hosted by Penn State University.
