PHILADELPHIA -
Coming off of a season that was highlighted by an undefeated record in conference play, Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse opens their 2022 campaign hosting St. Bonaventure at Sweeney Field on Saturday. Opening face-off is set for noon with the game being streamed on NEC Front Row.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S:
  • The Hawks finished last season 9-4 overall, with an undefeated 8-0 conference record. Saint Joseph's lost in heartbreaking fashion to Bryant in last year's NEC Championship, falling 16-10.
  • Similar to this past season, Saint Joseph's is led by senior face-off specialist Zach Cole. Cole was named to the 2022 Tewaaraton Award Watch List. On top of that, he was named a Third Team Preseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse, United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, and USA Lacrosse Magazine. The Mount Laurel, N.J. native looks to build on a season where he won 68.3% of his face-off opportunities and was named the NEC Player of the Year.
  • The team returns their top three goal scorers from last season in junior Matt Bohmer, senior Ryan Doran, and junior Levi Anderson. Bohmer led the team last season, finishing with 31 goals.
  • They also return their starting goalkeeper, graduate student Tucker Almany, whose season was highlighted by obtaining his career high in saves with 15 against Bryant. Almany was instrumental in the team's success, as they finished 9-1 in games he played.
  • On the defensive end, junior Patrick Clemens returns after leading the team in caused turnovers last season. The Springfield, Pa. native was second in ground balls, only behind Cole. Defender Logan Blondell returns for his senior season after finishing fifth in caused turnovers last season and looks to be a key cog to the Hawks' defensive efforts.
  • In addition, Saint Joseph's and head coach Taylor Wray welcome 15 new freshmen to their roster for the 2022 season. Wray is entering his eleventh season at the helm for the Hawks.
  • Assistant coach Scott Meehan is entering his fourth season, and the team welcomes program alum Mike Rastivo for his first season back at St. Joe's after departing in 2018.
ABOUT SAINT BONAVENTURE:
  • St. Bonaventure is coming off a season in which they finished 5-5 overall and 2-4 in the MAAC.
  • The Bonnies return their leading goal scorer Sean Westley, who is coming off a campaign in which he tallied 23 goals.
  •  They also return their goalie, Brett Dobson, who is looking to build on a season that saw him named to the MAAC Second-Team.
MATCHUP NOTES:
  • The Hawks and Bonnies have played twice in the two programs' histories with both matchups coming in 2019 and 2020. St. Joe's emerged victorious in both of the respective games, winning 15-8 and 15-7, respectively.
